Coalition of Kazakhstani NGOs “Oil revenues under Public Oversight” issued Activity Report for the period since 2005 to 2007: “Two years of EITI in Kazakhstan. Results and Recommendations” The Activity Report had been prepared under the financial support of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan.
Authors of the Report are: Sholpan Aitenova – Public Association “Justice Center”, Anton Artemyev - Kazakhstan Revenue Watch Program, Soros Foundation Kazakhstan, Malik Isabekov – Public Association “Caspian Nature”, Juri Krivodanov – Public Association “Blago”, Pavel Lobachev – Public Association “Echo”, Natalia Jancen – Public Association “Tax standards formation”.
EITI – Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative had been proposed in 2002 by Tony Blair, British Prime-minister as a model which provides accountability of the state before its citizens for revenues from extractive industries. In 2005 Kazakhstan joined the Initiative.
“In this Report the attempt to cover history of EITI in Kazakhstan in the period since 2005 to 2007 had been made. Authors attempted to present the independent opinion on problems and challenges and future trends connected to realization of EITI in Kazakhstan” – say authors.
Additionally authors included into the Report “Recommendations on improvement of the process and EITI content in Kazakhstan”.
In the near future the Report will be published and translated into Kazakh and English languages.
