MAJILIS APPROVED BILL ON RATIFICATION OF UN CONVENTION AGAINST CORRUPTION

Astana. March 19. Majilis [Lower chamber of the Parliament] deputies at the plenary session today approved the bill on ratification of the UN Convention against corruption.

"The purpose of signing of the Convention consists in assistance to acceptance and strengthening of the measures directed at more effective and efficient prevention of corruption, encouragement, simplification and support of international cooperation in prevention corruption and struggle with it, including acceptance of the measures on return of the assets received illegally," the conclusion of Majilis Committee for International Affairs, Defense and Security.

The convention provides "a complex of measures for prevention corruption, including in public service, public purchases, management of public finances, and participation of the society in prevention of corruption."

The convention was accepted by the UN General Assembly on October 31, 2003 in New York.

The bill has been forwarded to the Senate.
