On July 10, 2001 in Almaty had taken place Round Table “Problems and prospects of local self-governance in Kazakhstan” carried out with the frameworks of the project “Informational anti-Corruption Center”.
The main object of the event became revealing the level of transparency in current administrative and financial activity of the local governments. Their accountability to the society. And also public participation in counteracting corruption.
During the discussion participantsconsidered next themes:
- Specificity and mechanisms of functioning of representative and executive authorities (according to acting legislation);
- Political, legal and economic bases for introduction the institute of governors’ appointment by election;
- Obstacles and possibilities in local self-governance system.
In the work of Round Table took a part representatives of Kazakhstan and foreign NGOs, officials, experts and Mass Media.
