On October 27, 2003 in Almaty had taken place International Conference “Initiatives of Transparency in Extractive industry”.
Organizers: Transparency Kazakhstan, Institute for National Researches with the financial support of Ministry of Foreign affairs, Great Britain, and Open Society Institute.
Objects:
Development of initiatives by global campaign “Public What You Pay” and EITI Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative putted forward by Tony Blair and supported by Kazakh Government.
Themes of discussion:
- Level of transparency and condition of activity of investors in extractive industries of the RK;
- Legal regime of investors’ activity (question of taxation, environmental problems, correspondence to Kazakhstan legislation and international anti-corruption conventions).
- Improvement of existing national legislation of the RK in the field of extractive industry;
- Effectiveness of oil and gas revenues;
- Raising the level of public oversight, accountability and transparency in the process of revenues’ management. Creation the mechanism when these revenues could promote reducing the poverty and solution of social and economic problems, environmental problems in the RK.
