OUR PRIORITIES

Political Corruption

Political corruption has an influence on all of us. We elect politicians and political parties and wait that they will act within the interests of the society.  We gave them access to state recourses and to the right to make decisions which influence our lives. Taking into account this particular privileged position, politicians and political parties can damage us acting in their own selfish ends, or in the interests of those who finances their rise in the scale of ranks.

This is not surprising that people all over the world demand integrity from their political leaders. According to Corruption Barometer 2006 - 69% of respondents argue that their governments are not effective in the fight against corruption, or even more, in fact, they encourage corruption. Only 22% defined governmental actions as “effective” or “very effective”.  Already several years according to TI’s ratings, political parties are recognizing as the most corruptive institutes. In general, ordinary citizens accept political parties as institutes to a greater extent subjected to corruption. Taking into account this anxiety, Transparency International researched the problem of political corruption. One of the main results of these researches became development of  Effective instruments on preventing political corruption  and of course The TI Standards on Political Finance and Favours. These standards are beyond of other international principles and recommendations. They insist on dominating role of civil society in the process of development and monitoring of political finance.
