Since 1994 the world witnessed numerous attempts of different governments and international organisations to attract attention to a negative impact of corruption. International organisations, governments and private sector have understood that corruption is serious obstacle for effective governance, economic growth and national and international stability. The barest necessity in international and national anti-corruption legislations had appeared. The results of these attempts become adoption of serious and efficient documents which regulate and prevent corruption risks. The main object of all international anti-corruption conventions is the assistance to states and society understand a guileful essence of corruption and potential damage which can be caused to the global well-being; and also provide the society with effective measures implemented by other states on revealing and curbing corruption, formation of intolerant attitude towards it.
In May-June 2008 Kazakhstan ratified two main anti-corruption documents: UN Convention against corruption and UN Convention against transnational organized crime and all its protocols.
Kazakhstan's ratification of these conventions was one important step for harmonizing national regulations with international standards, intensifying international cooperation in the field of criminalization, combating money laundering, asset recovery and international cooperation on investigation and prosecution, strengthening measures directed to more effective and efficient prevention and fighting corruption.
Transparency Kazakhstan welcomes ratification of these anti-corruption instruments, which also testifies to Kazakhstan’s aspiration towards international cooperation and realization of system measures on fight against corruption and organized crimes.
